ABOUT MY WORK

As a painter and a poet, I’m interested in the overlaps of past and present experience and memory.  Whether I begin with a model, a photograph, or mark-making, painting leads me to these places. As a result, my work moves between abstraction and representation.  In my more figurative paintings, I prefer to include only hints of narrative, and in all my art, I'm drawn to the archetypal more than the individual.Working primarily in oils, cold wax, and acrylics, I paint to connect my experience with that of others.

ABOUT ME

Born in Georgia, and raised in Louisiana, I’ve spent much of my adult life in the San Francisco Bay Area.Although for years, I'd admired others’ art work, I always thought of myself as a word person.  An intense MFA program in writing poetry helped me realize I was reaching for a visual, pre-word experience. So, I fell in love with brushes and color and painting.
